How to eat pineapple core

The well-known myth is that pineapple core starts out as bananas. This myth is false, and the origin of the myth is often attributed to a misreading of a recipe in Martha Stewart Living magazine, which was quickly debunked. The article also has an explanation of how to peel pineapple with a knife.

How to eat pineapple core

Origin of the Myth

The myth about the origin of pineapple core being bananas stems from a misreading of a nonfictional article in Martha Stewart Living magazine, instructing readers how to cut and eat a pineapple. The article also includes an explanation debunking the myth. The myth was later perpetuated by an episode of Friends in which Chandler mentions how he read that it came from bananas. A fake news article was even published saying that the answer to pineapple core stuck bananas was in fact a bunch of facts and evidence.

The first clue that this myth is false is the fact that there is no significant difference between the taste of a fresh pineapple and a fresh banana. The only significant difference would be if one were to eat their handful of flesh, which wouldn't be likely to do much anyway since it would likely die shortly after being eaten. Another reason is that the core of a pineapple is in fact very fibrous and tough, which would make it more difficult to eat than a banana.

The description and instructions that the article gives is, however, a very good way to cut up the pineapple and eat it. Whether you have a fresh pineapple or not is irrelevant. This can be used by anybody.

Step one: hold the pineapple up so the stem is at your right side, with the bottom of the pineapple facing left.

Step two: cut off any leaves or stems that are sticking out below where you will slice.

Step three: slice off a thin layer around the top of the pineapple. The thin layer will expose something that looks like an indented circle on top of a cup of juice. This is the top of the pineapple.

Step four: cut off the top of the pineapple and set it aside (you can use it in a fruit salad later).

Step five: carefully peel out all of the eyes on your pineapple. Save them to put in a fruit salad, if desired.

The next step is to cut up, which is why this method was labeled as a way to eat it.

Step six: you need to stand your pineapple upright so that its core ends are facing you. Position your knife so that it is vertical, with the handle end at the bottom of the pineapple.

Step seven: begin to make vertical cuts about every inch on top of the pineapple. The cuts shouldn't go all the way through, just to about halfway through. Most people will make six or seven cuts (depending on how much they like their core). You should see a pattern of a few small slices, then three sets of three or four slices.

Step eight: turn the pineapple to the side and continue to make vertical cuts. This time, try to make 2 or 3 cuts in each direction.

Step nine: you may want to cut out some of the tight spaces. Most of what is left will look like this at this point

Step ten: take your knife and carefully scrape away any pieces that are sticking out/left over from previous cutting sessions. This can be somewhat difficult, so you might want to stand the pineapple up on a cutting board, or if it's too tall, cut off a little extra at the top.

Step eleven: you should have something like this when you finish (or follow my instructions here to finish as I do)

Step 12: cut and peel off any remaining skin (this is optional). Usually, it will look like this

Step 13: use the core for in your fruit salad. Some people will also find that it tastes better to add a little bit of salt over the core (I haven't done this personally, but some people say that it helps cut through the fibrous core of pineapple). You can also use the core in any recipe as well.

When you take a fresh pineapple, the core has a fibrous, tough texture. It's not the easiest thing to eat. However, there are ways to make it more edible and to preserve for later use. This recipe is an easy way to do that. It can be used with any kind of pineapple (sweet or salt), so long as it's fresh. Other recipes include things like honey or sugar, but you don't need either of those.

Description

You will need:

1 fresh pineapple (any kind, size, or shape)

Freezer bags to put the fruit in

Directions:

Step one: peel the pineapple. Use a knife to remove the skin of the pineapple. Cut off any chunks that are attached to the core and put them in your bag as well.

Step two: clean out the core. Put the core of the pineapple in a bowl and use a fork to break up any larger chunks. Add them to your bag.

Step three: pack in your fruit. Fill the rest of your bag with as much of the pineapple as you can fit. Make sure that no juice is left around any parts of the fruit. Squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing it tight and putting it in the freezer for a few hours (not overnight). Alternative Method for Eating Pineapple

You can cut the top and bottom off of the pineapple (I like to cut the top off, but you can leave it on if you'd like), then slice it into pieces. You can put them on a plate or in a bowl and they'll be fine. They won't turn brown like they would in a fruit salad, but they will still taste fine. I haven't tried it myself, but people have done this before with no ill effect. You can also put the pineapple pieces in some sugar and put them in the oven to crisp them up.

You might also want to try this recipe with the fruit of a banana. Try it out and see if you like it!

The amazing thing about a pineapple is that you can actually eat it without putting it through an extra step before you eat it! It's even more amazing that there is no difference in taste between a fresh pineapple and one that has been in the fridge for seven days (or whatever). Description
